First off, we finally killed Percy. Percy was a mouse that had been living in Amy's room for about two weeks. Linds and I spotted him one evening as he sauntered through the kitchen while we sat at the kitchen table. Since that sighting, I'd see Percy about every day, usually running from Amy's room, through the living room, into the kitchen and back.
We emailed management about Percy and they came in and set up sticky traps in our apartment. Sticky traps are terrible. If they manage to work, the mouse dies a slow and painful death inside a sticky pyramid, where he tries to gnaw his legs off to get out. Ew. Thankfully, I wasn't home when Ralph (our first mouse) got stuck in a sticky trap.
However, Percy wasn't fooled by the sticky traps. Last Sunday morning I awoke to a trap a good 3 feet from where I left it the night before. I thought that I'd finally caught Percy, but he wasn't inside!
Sticky trap, nowhere near under the fridge.
We decided to buy real mouse traps. We bought two and set them up with some peanut butter on the hinge. The next morning we woke up to find that every bit of the peanut butter was gone but the traps hadn't even been set off! I accidently nudged one while examining it and it went off with a bang. Percy was smart.
Last Thursday evening, Amy and I set up both traps in the living room and sat down to watch TV. Not five minutes passed before Percy came out, climbed onto one of the traps and used both paws to pick at the peanut butter. The traps weren't going off!
I scared Percy away and took off all the peanut butter except for a tiny bit. We returned the traps and I went to bed, only to awaken to Amy's scream about 2 minutes later. We caught Percy!
It was traumatic.
Meet Percy.
I tried to scoop his body into the garbage but felt a wave of nausea and was unable. We covered Percy's body with paper towels and Amy was able to toss him in.
Bye bye Percy!
In other news, my apartment building has been without washers or dryers for about a month. I went downstairs one day and they were completely gone. We emailed management the week of Percy and threatened to 'consider action' if nothing was done about our mouse problem and lack of washers and dryers. They called us the next day and told us they drilled shut the garbage shoots (to fix the mice problem) and that new washers and dryers were arriving soon.
Amy and I went downstairs last week and found a whole new basement!
Amy expressing our joy.
SO BEAUTIFUL!
The washers text you when your load is done?!
Cute paintings.
No more walking a 1/2 mile roundtrip lugging my laundry! This week we're happy residents of 414.
