Hurricane Sandy

Pics are working:

Monday night as the storm started to hit, my phone started making weird
sounds and lit up with this emergency alert.
After the storm, Amy and I walked around to check out damage.
Barking Dog taped their windows.
77th and York, tree down.
77th Street sign bent 45 degrees!!!
Trees down.
FDR - EMPTY and closed.
Never seen this before.
Drains totally clogged off the FDR on the East River.
 This wasn't here before!!
Huge foam piece left from the storm.
Downed poles.

I was trying to post pictures from my apartment yesterday, but our Internet has been spotty.

414 escaped all of the hurricane (yay concrete walls and only two windows!) but all of our friends south of 34th street are still without power. NYC shut off power in lower Manhattan and Roosevelt Island to try and save the wires from bad electrical damage from the flooding. Friends on 14th street were posting pictures of cars floating by and crazy flooding all around.

Amy and I walked around the Upper East on Tuesday afternoon. Lots of downed trees. FDR was closed to traffic. The East River was still really high and you could see where the water line was. So much flooding!!! There were weird things the water had carried in and left, like this huge piece of styrofoam.

One of Lindsay's coworkers from Sloan has been sleeping at our apartment since Sunday so she can make it to the hospital everyday. Tonight well have even more people staying with us, friends who live in Queens and had 3 hour commutes this morning.

Subways are still down but buses are up. Buses are pretty much taking hours to get less than a mile - traffic is really terrible. I walked to work from my apartment and the streets were literally flooded with others doing the same. It was faster to walk 30+ blocks than hop a cab or bus! A coworker left her house in White Plains at 730 and didn't make it to the office til 1030!

Lindsay's beach club is completely obliterated. Jersey shore is gone. A tree fell on one of my coworkers houses in Jersey - luckily he and his family were sheltered in the basement so they escaped harm. So much damage in lower Manhattan. National Coast Guard has been called in to Hoboken, which is still partially underwater.

Ill hopefully be leaving work early today to make it home before dark. Jess was supposed to fly in on Friday but a of now the airports are still down.

Hopefully some of these pics will load!

Bear Mountain!

UPDATE: More pics from Amy's Camera!

(Hurricane Sandy is happening outside right now, but fortunately the Upper East is still fine, just rain and wind for now)

But on Saturday Amy, Lindsay, Erin, Bianca, Joseph and I went to Bear Mountain, which is a NY State Park on the western bank of the Hudson. We found out that you can take a Circle Line boat up the Hudson to the park, so we booked our cruise for this past Saturday, which was Oktoberfest.

It turned out to be really amazing - beautiful boat ride, gorgeous park, and tasty Oktoberfest treats! I'm planning on renting a cabin room or 2 next year for my bday weekend.

We had to be on the West side for an 8:30 am boarding!
Leaving the city.
Linds with the GW Bridge.
Arriving at Bear Mountain!
So gorgeous.
The Circle Line boat.

Look at those steins! We got to keep the glasses.
Bratwurst and potato pancakes! So tasty!
View of Oktoberfest.
We scored a great picnic table by the lake!
So pretty!!

Great roomie pic!!
On the boat back to Manhattan.

We got back to Manhattan at 5:30. It was an amazing day trip and I can't wait to go back next year. Amy took some great pictures on her camera, I'll add some more when I get them!

Homecoming!

A few weeks ago we had Fordham Homecoming! We were so excited to get back to the Bronx.

That Friday night, Amy, Linds and I and some other Fordham friends headed to a local bar to
relax after the workweek and get excited for homecoming the next morning.

Saturday morning Amy donned her apron and made everyone
breakfast sandwiches before we headed up to the Bronx.
