After over a month of scouring the internet and hours upon hours of apartment viewing, we have finally found our apartment.
I will say that one way to really get to know Manhattan is to apartment view. We've jumped around from the 130's, down to West and East Harlem, down to the Lower East Side and back up to the Upper East Side. After seeing so many neighborhoods (and so many apartments! Looking back, some of them were ridiculous) we set our hearts on the Upper East Side.
It's just a great neighborhood, very safe, with lots to do. Close to the park, close to everything! We've spent a lot of time there in the past few months, checking out restaurants and shops and just walking around.
Anyways, last Monday after viewing a couple apartments, Amy and I wandered over to a rental agency on the UES that we had found on the internet, not thinking that we'd be going home with any potential apartments to seriously consider. We were getting closer and closer to our ideal May 1st move in date and thinking that we just weren't going to make it.
An employee showed us 2 available apartments, the first of which looked too small and the second being a bit out of our price range. After debating, we decided that since we had the time and no other options, that we would just check them both out in person.
The first one was a perfect surprise. It was definitely larger than it looked in the pictures. East 77th Street, between 1st Avenue and York. Two bedrooms, one bigger than the other, great closet space, good kitchen, bathroom and a decent sized living room. Not to mention laundry in the basement. All at a great price!
This apartment was definitely the best that we had seen and in our dream neighborhood on the UES. We decided to move forward with the apartment, figured out everything that came up and just signed the lease today! We can officially pick up our keys and move in this Sunday!
The apartment is a few avenues from the subway, one block from the bus and about a block from a public park that has pools, basketball and tennis courts, not to mention plenty of benches overlooking the East River.
The neighborhood is great - restaurants, shops, cleaners, etc. all steps from our front door. Dunkin Donuts, H&M, Jamba Juice, Stabucks, CVS and the grocery store all within a five minute walk!

So happy to finally have a place and so happy with our apartment!!! Going to start moving things in this Sunday!
